Zbigniew Grzyb | A New Reality| East Gallery
Untitled
Acrylic on Canvas | 7'2" x 6'| 2018 |
Artist Statement:
While I paint I become part of the process. I don’t try to control the destiny of the painting. When every element of the painting connects, I stop. Through my subconscious and my experience I transform the medium to a new reality. Painting for me is the physical object and independent universe. Art is a treasure of one self’s struggle for perfection. Art is a universe within itself. |
Tracks Near Billerica
Graphite on Yupo | 11" x 14" | 2016 |
Artist Statement:
I work from direct observation on site, choosing by instinct how and what I want to see. The intersecting geometries of natural and man made landscapes are the armatures upon which I build my fictions. In my quest for logical fiction, which is what “realism” is after all, I layer improvisation over observation. Curators Statement:
When an artist walks into their first day at art school they have already formed ideas and found artists they have an affinity for. Throughout school and all the years later these subtle influences form his artistic style. Along the way, at every turn, more and different influences are integrated into their style until a new and special style emerges. I’ve always felt that a curator’s job is to tell the story of this progression. Ideally, every show should be big enough to show the entire story, to lead the viewers from point “A” to point “Z” and beyond. No gallery is that big, though, so we curators must do the best we can to tell the story. Viewers bring a lot to a show and most can appreciate even a single isolated art work, but in a full gallery show enough can be shown to present an abbreviated progression. I’ve known Dennis since the 1970’s and have seen the entire story; this is my telling of part of it. |

Plexiglass, Reflective Mylar and LED Lights | Dimensions Vary |
Artist Statement:
I create shifting, layered, abstract landscapes using transparent materials and projected lights to create contemplative, meditative spaces. In these map- like sculptural objects reminiscent of fantastical hybrid plant species I translate material and form into a visual language of color, transparency, translucency, and reflectivity giving material presence to intangible ideas. My work is inspired by nature and natural processes such as energy flow and nutrient cycles, and is rooted in my personal experiences growing up by the ocean. For the past several years I have developed my work to echo patterned beauty and shaped cycles of plant evolution. My current work focuses on the underwater environment, exploring how issues of seaweed cultivation, ocean farming and food security can improve our lives. |
